Capuchin(franciscan) Sisters of Nazareth

Catholic Franciscan community of women religious who are apostolic the footsteps of St Francis of Assisi and St Clare, as they followed Lord Jesus. Following the poor, humble life of the Poverello of Assisi, St. Francis, and in union with the spirit of the Capuchin branch of the Franciscan order, the sisters strive to live a joyful, simple lifestyle. So, "poor in fact but rich in spirit", they entrust themselves to Divine Providence.

The Eucharist, Heart of the Catholic faith. It is the real presence of Jesus Christ in the host. With contact with the Host has come cures and conversions. As is seen with the example with the Eucharist Fraternity, which accomodates "casualties of life".

Its founder, the Father Nicolas Buttet. A young intellectual promised with a beautiful career as a politician and lawyer in Switzerland. It it was finally to God that Nicolas Buttet chose to devote his life. From the corridors of the Vatican to the foundation of Eucharistein Fraternity, while living a life of hermit in the Canton of Were Worth, the man deserves the life.

Mozart's Requiem Mass in D Minor - Introitus and Kyrie

John Eliot Gardiner conducts the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir. This performance was filmed at the Palau de la Musica Catalana, Barcelona in Dec. 1991.

A Requiem Mass in the Roman Catholic tradition is a service designed to pray for the souls of the departed. The parts of the liturgy that are meant to be sung are what constitute all Requiem Mass compositions, including Mozart's.

The structure is as follows:
1. Introit
2. Kyrie
3. Sequence: a. Dies irae b. Tuba mirum c. Rex tremendae d. Recordare e. Confutatis f. Lacrimosa
4. Offertory: a. Domine Jesu Christe b. Hostias
5. Sanctus
6. Benedictus
7. Agnus Dei
8. Lux Aeterna

Mozart died before finishing the Requiem Mass, and his wife Constanze gave the task of finishing the work to a pupil of Mozart's named Süssmayr. From the Sanctus onward, the Requiem is the creation of Süssmayr, though he did use portions of the Introit and Kyrie for the Lux Aeterna.

Below is the Latin and the English translation for the Introit and Kyrie.

Requiem æternam dona eis
Eternal rest grant unto them
Requiem æternam dona eis
Eternal rest grant unto them
et lux perpetua
and perpetual light
et lux perpetua luceat
and perpetual light illuminate
luceat eis.
illuminate them.

Te decet hymnus Deus
A hymn comes to you
in Sion
in Zion
et tibi reddetur votum in Ierusalem.
and to you a vow shall be repaid in Jerusalem.
Exaudi Exaudi Exaudi
Hear, hear, hear
orationem meam
my prayer
ad te, ad te
to you, to you
omnis caro veniet.
all flesh will come.

Requiem æternam dona eis,
Requiem æternam dona eis,
Domine et lux perpetua
et lux perpetua
et lux perpetua
luceat eis.
luceat eis.

Kyrie eleison, eleison.
God have mercy.
Kyrie eleison, eleison.
Kyrie eleison, eleison.

Christe eleison, eleison.
Christ have mercy.
Christe eleison, eleison.

Kyrie eleison.
God have mercy.

Sancta Missa - Feast of the Sacred Heart

Traditional Latin Mass filmed on the Feast of the Sacred Heart in the small chapel of the International Seminary of Saint Cure d'Ars, Flavigny, France, in 1999. The seminary is the Society of Saint Pius X's second European seminary. Typically seminarians spend their first year of spiritually there before leaving for Ecône, Switzerland, to complete their training.

The film presents the ceremonies of the Missa Solemnis or Solemn High Mass with Gregorian chant and polyphonic motets. Some local customs take place during the Mass. For example, birettas are not worn and the Domini Non Sum Dignus is recited aloud by all present.

This film has been encoded from an original source at the highest quality possible given the size restrictions of this media. Unfortunately this has resulted in a slightly blurred picture and mono sound rather than stereo. Apart from the addition of captions, the film remains unchanged.

The Prayer Of Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Schubert - Ava Maria

Franz Schubert - Ave Maria
German Opera

Ave Maria!
Jungfrau mild,
Erhöre einer Jungfrau Flehen,
Aus diesem Felsen starr und wild
Soll mein Gebet zu dir hin wehen,
Zu dir hin wehen.
Wir schlafen sicher bis zum Morgen,
Ob Menschen noch so grausam sind.
O Jungfrau, sieh der Jungfrau Sorgen,
O Mutter, hör ein bittend Kind!
Ave Maria!

Ave Maria!
Wenn wir auf diesen Fels hinsinken
Zum Schlaf, und uns dein Schutz bedeckt,
Wird weich der harte Fels uns dünken
Du lächelst, Rosendüfte wehen
In dieser dumpfen Felsenkluft.
O Mutter, höre Kindes Flehen,
O Jungfrau, eine Jungfrau ruft!
Ave Maria!

Ave Maria!
Reine Magd,
Der Erde und der Luft Dämonen,
Von deines Auges Huld verjagt,
Sie können hier nicht bei uns wohnen
Wir woll'n uns still dem Schicksal beugen,
Da uns dein heilger Trost anweht;
Der Jungfrau wolle hold dich neigen,
Dem Kind, das für den Vater fleht!
Ave Maria!

Hermits of Bethlehem

This EWTN program, shown here in three parts, examines the way of life of the hermits of Bethlehem, along with their founder, Fr. Eugene L. Romano, providing a history of the group and a brief exploration of how they live and why they chose to do so. The program emphasizes that the hermits are neither rebellious nor anti-social. They do not seek to isolate themselves from a suffering humanity. Rather, through prayer and devotion, they seek to serve the Church and to be a spiritual support for all who are actively involved in carrying out the mission of Jesus.

Sümela Monastery

The Sümela Monastery (Greek: Παναγία Σουμελά, Turkish: Sümela Manastırı) stands at the foot of a steep cliff facing the Altındere valley which is in the Trazbzon Province on the Black Sea. The monastery was founded in the year 386 and it reached its present form in the 13th century. Monks and travellers continued to journey there throughout the years and the monastery was extremely popular up until the 19th century.

The Monastery was seized for a time by the Russians during the occupation of Trabzon between 1916 - 1918. It was finally abandoned in 1923, following the population exchanges between Greece and Turkey after the Treaty of Lausanne.

Saint Symeon the Stylite Monastery

This 5th century monastery is located in Syria. It was built around the pillar of St Symeon at the heart of the "dead cities" (a name given to a vast area of abandoned Christian sites). The cross-shaped church was the largest structure built in Christendom before Hagia Sophia was built by Justinian in Constantinople.

Transalpine Redemptorist Monks of Papa Stronsay, Scotland

Excerpt from a documentary series featuring the Transalpine Redemptorist monks of Papa Stronsay, Scotland - a congregation of traditionalist Catholic Fathers and Brothers of both Eastern and Western Rite from all over the world. The documentary was filmed in September 2003 and originally aired on Channel 4 (UK) in 2004.

The congregation was founded in 1988 by Fr Michael Mary and Fr Anthony Mary on the advice of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. Their aim was to found a new Redemptorist congregation which observed the original Rule of Saint Alphonsus and ignored the reforms adopted by modern Redemptorists following the Second Vatican Council.

The congregation moved from the Isle of Sheppy in Kent, England, to Papa Stronsay in 1999. The island was considered ideal because of its seclusion from the world and ancient connection with the monastic tradition. As well as producing their own newspaper, the monks raise their own cattle and sheep and they produce most of their own food.
